if you've ever wanted to dance in a basement under the louvre, it doesn't get much classier than this joint patronized by french models, arab businessmen, women with a past, and children of the rich. dim lighting illuminates black leather furniture, and there are two bars with shiny black or glass surfaces. there is also a trio of different seating areas. music is house and electro, with various hip-hop songs and other american hits mixed in. we even heard michael jackson one night (remember him?).

a student hangout since the uprising of 1969, this enduring latin quarter favorite attracts a counter-culture clientele; even johnny depp has been known to show up. you can lose yourself here in a "lasso" of blue smoke around the old déglingué piano. ıt's where the paris of yesterday meets the paris of today as piano music graces the night. music begins on most nights after 8pm. djs play everything from punk to rock; the 80s often live again.

la tartine ,

mirrors, brass details, and frosted-globe chandeliers make la tartine look like a movie set of old paris. at least 60 wines are offered at reasonable prices, including seven kinds of beaujolais and a large selection of bordeaux by the glass. glasses of wine cost 3.50€ to 6€ ($5.10-$8.70), and the charcuterie platter costs 9€ to 15€ ($13-$22). we recommend the light sancerre wine and goat cheese from the loire valley. open daily 8am to 2am.

cité de la musique ,

this testimony to the power of music has been the most widely applauded, the least criticized, and the most innovative of the late françois mitterrand's grands projets. at the city's northeastern edge in what used to be a run-down and depressing neighborhood, this $120-million stone-and-glass structure incorporates a network of concert halls, a library and research center for the study of all kinds of music, and a museum. the complex hosts a rich variety of concerts, ranging from renaissance music through 19th- and 20th-century works, including jazz and traditional music from nations around the world.

this is a camp classic. the establishment that toulouse-lautrec immortalized is still here, but the artist would probably have a hard time recognizing it. colette created a scandal here by offering an on-stage kiss to mme de morny, but shows today have a harder time shocking audiences. try to get a table -- the view is much better on the main floor than from the bar. what's the theme? ıt's strip routines and the saucy sexiness of la belle epoque, and of permissive paris between the wars. handsome men and girls, girls, girls, virtually all topless, keep the place going. dance finales usually include two dozen of the belles doing a topless cancan. revues begin nightly at 9 and 11pm.

Board Description
NIGHTLIFE ,
Well, it is Paris. Going to bed early is a sin here, and spending a week without getting out basically means jail time. Nightlife is one of the main attractions in paris, and since the legal age of drinking is sixteen, most people don't even need a fake id.
